Girls Only Weekend

This past weekend I went to St. George, Utah with my sister-in-laws and mother-in-law. This was the first time I had left Aaron with the kiddos alone for more than a few hours. It was nice for me to get away on my own and not have to change diapers or deal with temper trantrums for a few days. I was also amazed at how quickly I could decide I wanted to do something and get out the door. When I decided to go to the pool, I simply put on my swimming suit and was basking in the sun 38 seconds later….a very different scenario with Abe and Breanne in tow. I stayed up late, slept in to whenever I want, ate whatever and whenever I wanted, didn’t have to carry around a heavy diaper bag everywhere, and wasn’t constantly watching for my children or reminding anyone to stay right next to me in public. It was relaxing and rejuvinating to be reminded that I do have an identity outside of being Abe and Breanne’s full-time personal assistant. I will admit though, there were times when I did miss my little cuties…like when I was sitting in Church on Sunday and noticed the little 2 year old sitting on the bench next to me cuddling up to his Mom nearly falling asleep on her shoulder. And every time I called my family, hearing Abe and Breanne’s little sweet voices on the other end of the line telling me about how much fun they were having with Daddy. But it was a much needed break, and I gained a greater appreciation for my family while I was away. Its true what they say, “distance makes the heart grow fonder.” I’m glad to be back home and was quite impressed with how well Aaron managed without me! The house was in good order and the kids were happy and well-fed when I returned. I am so grateful to have a husband who is devoted to his family and willing to give me a little break every once in a while. Thanks hun!

  1. I say good for your husband for letting you get away for a much needed break and good for you for taking advantage of the opportunity.

  2. Looks like fun….We should try this with our Evans-Jorgensen clan sometime in the near future….two more granddaughters coming in December 2008. Maybe in a year or so.
